I'm Gonna Be BAD!!

Yep!! That's right! I'm gonna be a bad girl! Sounds wierd coming from me right. I can finally announce this in my blog now. I'm gonna be designing for badgirlskits.com! The kits are sooooo beautiful! Plus I love the work of Celia King who is the head DT. And the owner Wendy Rago scraps beautifully too!

The announcement has been made on the site http://www.badgirlskits.com/design_team.html
and there is a cute presentation of us at the blog.

When I saw the profile of the other designers I was shocked to find out that I'm in the company of such accomplished scrappers! Now I'm scared hehe. But it is an honor. I'm excited to start with the next kit.

Oh the poppit you see here is part of the presentation. They asked us to make one of ourself. Was trying to make one that looks a little more "bad" but it's just not me :)

Mad Cropper's Layout of the Week

I was surprised and pleased to find a note on my blog from Christine that my layout was chosen as:

Mad Cropper’s Layout of the Week: Explore Photography

This is what she said:

This beautiful layout was created by the equally beautiful, Iris Babao Uy entitled “Explore Photography”.

I liked this layout for its focus on the scrapbooker and her passion: photography. Normally, scrapbookers create layouts for their loved ones but rarely about them so this is a salute to Iris for creating a layout that captures…HER

A VERY GOOD MORNING

I had two great mornings in a row. 1st was yesterday when I received an email from the owner of a new kit club that they have selected me to be part of their design team. I was thrilled because I drool over their kits everytime I see their upload. And now I get to work with those beauties.

And this morning was the best. A week ago, I received an email from Patty Craft (editor of Memory Makers Magazine) asking a handful of ladies to create 8.5 x 11 LOs for consideration in the January 2008 cover of Memory Makers Magazine. I was thrilled, but when I saw the names of the other scrappers they wrote to, I thought to myself there was no chance I'm gonna be chosen. They also wrote to scrappers who have been published numerous times, and to the present Memory Makers Masters. But then I felt I owed it to Patty to at least try because she did me an honor already just by asking me to send a page.

The difficult part of the requirement though is that we had to work on a picture with happy face/ faces and with eye contact. I did not have much of those! Nicole hardly looks at the camera now. So Jeff and Pia comes to the rescue and we schedule a shoot at Tagaytay. Come scheduled shoot - the sky was dull and we did not get any shots of Nicole looking at the camera. Looks like I had no chance at all. So just to acknowledge Patty's letter, I worked on a couple of photos that I felt maybe would be ok and did my best despite the doubt that I could make a layout that would merit a cover page.

And this morning... Patty sent me an email that lifted me up - way way way up! They chose my LO! And it featured a picture of Me and Nicole taken a few days before she turned 2. I could hardly believe it. I was shrieking and calling out to them cause I wanted so bad to wake them up and share my good news! My husband and mom thought there was an emergency! LOL! And you know what my mom said ... "Ay sisikat na ang apo ko!" (My granddaughter is gonna be famous!!)LOL! I'm so happy and so thankful to Memory Makers for taking notice of me and for giving me a chance. But I can't share the page in any gallery. haha. Will have to wait till January next year. I just had to write down these thoughts and this was the place for me to do that. Thanks for reading this.

1st Design Work at Scraplovers

We don't officially start our term as DTs for scraplovers till August, but we were asked to be part of the special reveal for this month using Tinkering Ink. Here are my LOs. My picture in "Exploring Photography" was taken by none other than Pia Lopez!! And the smaller pic of all of us holding a camera was taken by Jeff Lopez.

Corresponding with CD Muckosky

I can't believe I just got two email letters from CD Muckosky!! She is my scrap idol and I love how she creates small little drawings on her LOs and how she paints all over them. I'm still too scared to do that.

Anyway, I posted two new LOs at twopeas and she was the first one who left comments on both of them! So you can just imagine how high I was! I emailed her this, and this is what she emailed me back. She is such a sweet and down to earth person. Really worth admiring.

MY EMAIL:
Hi C.D. I can't beleive it was you who left a sweet comment on my two recent LOs. You are my idol! Love your work so much. I'm not good with drawing though so I can't do what you do sooooo well. I'm writing you from the Philippines so it's 1:02 a.m. here. You just made my night... and my morning :) Have a good day!

CD's REPLY:
wow, now you made my day! ( noon here)
this is such a nice email, thank-you so much for the smile today
you really have amazing talent, I think you are gonna go places girl!
stay inspired, it truly shines in your work. I LOVED your whole gallery so much I added the whole thing to my book of scraps so I can check back again next visit to 2 peas and get lost in the scrapping goodness!a real treat to "find" you today.
HUGS to you my new friend!

MY 2ND EMAIL (Kasalukuyang hanggang tenga ang ngiti):
Oh my goodness I am saving this email FOR LIFE!!! haha. Not every day that you get an email from a celebrity. :) Are you used to it yet? :) Thank you for your kind words, will keep that in mind next time I feel like giving up on sending to magazines. :) I've sent tons!!! Only Memory Makers took notice. Still working on scrapbooks etc and Creating Keepsakes. You are so well loved C.D. You have a huge following. Congratulations. Well deserved. I'll be looking forward to your book in the near future... and your paper line too :)

CD's 2nd Reply:
oh please don't ever give up! wanna know something? when I won SOY I had never had a page picked up by sending in to calls at CK, I had been trying for almost a year. Scrapbook Trends seemed to be a good starting place for me (easier to
get into)and making memories noticed me in there and asked me to do a book with them. That was only just a small part of MY journey...you never know what is in store for you, you've just got to follow your dreams and enjoy the journey. Every day is a gift right?! when you do this because it is your passion and you create with your heart for all of the right reasons ( which it looks like you do) it shines in your work...like a bit of your heart right there on the page.

take care girl, glad to know you :)

oh p.s.
not used to being called a "celebrity" at all LOL! I'm still just a girl in her husbands comfy sweats and an orange crush tee feeding her kids cheerios on a rainy day :)

- Told you she was great! I love what she said about following our dreams and about scrapping for the right reasons. I agree with her. Sometimes the pressure of trying to keep up with the trend, and with the work of all the great scrappers takes the fun out of scrapping. Thing is, we started this as a hobby... so it SHOULD BE FUN! And we should enjoy it.

Live, Love, Laugh

This is a layout I completed in less than two hours. I love the Jenni Bowlin papers. Matched it with Fancy Pants paper and creative imagination scallop paper, and I added some embelishments that has been in my stash for the longest time.

"Beauty" at Page Map's Home Page

I contributed to Becky Fleck's Page Maps July Issue and being one who was not used to doing sketches, I had a hard time finising this LO. I mean, Becky makes beautiful sketches and I was afraid I won't do it justice. Anyway, I opened my email and saw that the newsletter was already up. I was surprised and flattered that she placed it on the homepage and even added a sweet sweet note. Thanks Becky for sweet little treats like these.

This is what she wrote:
Have you ever seen a layout that makes you want to scrapbook that very moment? That was exactly my reaction when I saw Iris Babao's sample page this month. Check out her fussy cutting on the BasicGrey paper—that is some serious knife work. Great layout, Iris!

What ever your summer plans are this month, be safe and have fun!

Here's to creativity,

Becky

Ria's Good News!

Ria sent me a text message this morning telling me that we both won in Scenic Route's monthly challenge! WOW! This is getting to be addicting. My entry for last month's "Arrows Challenge" also won and they were pretty generous with the prize pack (Laurel and Rockland Papers). This time we will be getting the background collection plus other goodies. This LO was a gift for Sahrie. This is a picture of her son Luke playing at the playground during the scrapbooking event of scrapbukan with Mary Grace Abuzman. Photo courtesy of Jeff Lopez

This layout of Bry and Nicole won in Cropadict's "My Guy" challenge. They said, I'll be getting a prize, but the moderators are on holiday so I don't know yet what prize it will be :)

BIG BIG BLESSING!

I finally received the "big news" from scraplovers. http://www.scraplovers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12243
I made it!! I am soooo happy and soooo thankful. This has been one of my goals.. to get in a Design Team in an international site. I can't believe my goals and dreams are slowly being realized. The past two months of the contest has been tough for me. The challenges were difficult and I had to do things I have never tried before (LO with no patterned paper, totally b&W layout, LO on glass etc.). I just have to thank all my scrapping friends for the support and the inspiration. Oh btw, special mention to scrappinmoms... the glass I used for my final entry was the glass from their shadow box!! hehe:)A big thanks also to Sahrie (www.scrapbukan.com) who has always been supportive of us and for allowing us to try out at other sites. Thank you Sahrie!
